The SISCO Utility Integration Bus Toolkit (UIB) product family is predicated upon the premise that information exchange, between applications, needs to be facilitated regardless of the application environment in which the application is developed. Therefore, the products and architecture allow for the management and transparent integration of legacy applications and databases as well as applications which utilize the prevalent object technologies: Java, DCOM, and CORBA.

Some features of the UIB include the following:

  • Provides "guaranteed" information delivery, even with information published while subscriber was detached from UIB.
  • Provides a standard mechanism for the integration of information across multiple information schemas (e.g. EPRI's CIM model).
  • Simplifies application information exchange through the use of publish and subscribe messaging technology.
  • Provides a standard mechanism for automatic information loss detection and recovery.
  • Provides a mechanism for "wrapping" legacy applications so that legacy systems can be integrated.
  • Designed to be used with or without object technologies.
