U.S. - Canada Power System Outage Task Force Meets For Final Review

North American electric industry and government leaders met last month in Washington D.C to discuss the draft of the U.S.-Canada Power Outage Task Force's final report on the implementation of the recommendations contained in its April 2004 report on the 2003 blackout.

The task force also acknowledged that processes are in place to move forward with its recommendations, and that specific, identifiable entities can be held accountable for each of the recommendations that require continued attention.

The task force is preparing its final revisions to the draft based on the comments it received at the June conference, and expects to present its final report to the U.S. and Canadian governments later this month.

NERC believes the final draft report of the task force fairly and accurately captures the implementation status of the Group 2 recommendations that support and strengthen NERC's February 10, 2004 recommendations.

The task force illustrates a stellar international public-private partnership that has lasted almost three years between government and industry organizations. In fact, the depth and breadth of the investigation of the August 2003 blackout, and the partnership between industry and government is unparalleled in the history of the industry.
