Schneider Electric Expands Its Presence In The Nordic Countries With Smart Grid Technology
Scope of partnership expands Schneider Electric’s management of Vattenfall’s Automated Metering Infrastructure to include 85 percent of its smart meter system
Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, announced recently that its work with Vattenfall Eldistribution of Stockholm, Sweden has been expanded to include a larger portion of its smart meter system management. The new contract will continue through March 31, 2017, and gives Schneider Electric continued responsability for the management of an Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) of 615,000 smart meters. The work includes the integration of an additional 150,000 meters to the Schneider Electric AMI Titanium platform. This unified AMI platform will support the management of 85 percent of Vattenfall’s meters as of January 2013.
By installing Schneider Electric’s AMI managed services, Vattenfall is able to build its meter system with an open-architecture, highly-integrated product. Schneider Electric’s deep knowledge of large-scale AMI deployments and operation means Vattenfall can be confident that its system is being expertly integrated with a holistic view of the project. By unifying its smart meters into a single system, Vattenfall expects to increase service levels and reduce cost, with the future goal to have a single AMI platform as an integrated part of the future smart grid architecture.
Schneider Electric has successfully partnered with Vattenfall since 2005, implementing and operating its network of smart meters. In selecting Schneider Electric’s smart energy services as the technology to base its smart metering platform, Vattenfall will continue to be able to operate its large-scale AMI system with the high-standard in which it has become accustomed and be confident that the cyber security solutions applied by Schneider Electric will keep the network secure.
According to Schneider Electric's ecutive VP Smart Infrastructure Division, Ignacio Gonzalez, “We are pleased to continue our successful relationship with Vattenfall and to provide smart grid technology that enables the utility to operate more efficiently. The expanded partnership reaffirms Schneider Electric’s regional and global leadership in the smart grid industry.”
Vattenfall Eldistribution AB is one of the largest electricity distributors in Sweden and is a part of the business unit Vattenfall BU Distribution, which operates in Sweden and Germany. Vattenfall Eldistribution AB distributes electricity to approximately 850,000 private- and corporate customers in Sweden in approximately 120,000 kilometers cable network.
Schneider Electric has developed and deployed smart meter technology for nearly 10 years and is recognized as a substantial contributor to utility providers, including receiving the Smart Metering Service Provider Award at the Smart Metering UK and Europe Summit 2012.
