PureCell® Fuel Cell Systems To Provide Clean And Efficient Energy Solutions At The Future Connecticut Studios Project Site

South Windsor, CT /PRNewswire/ - ClearEdge Power, a manufacturer of scalable, distributed power systems, today announced that CTS Energy, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Connecticut Studios, LLC, has agreed to acquire 12 PureCell® Model 400 fuel cell systems as part of its full service, state-of-the-art motion picture and television studio and production facility in the town of South Windsor, Conn.  As part of the Connecticut Studios project, CTS Energy is developing an electric generation facility using the PureCell Model 400 fuel cells. The fuel cells will provide 4.98 MWs of clean, efficient power to the local grid.

"ClearEdge Power's fuel cells are the industry standard for dependability, offering many positive attributes including superior reliability and performance. What makes a good deal better is that they are a local company, creating local jobs, paying local taxes and contributing to the local economy," said Anthony DelVicario, an owner of Connecticut Studios and CTS Energy.

According to DelVicario, the fuel cell power station is a critical component of the overall Connecticut Studios project, which includes a full service production studio (the largest in Connecticut), a business class hotel, three restaurants and ancillary commercial development.  Once completed, it is anticipated that the Studio and ancillary businesses will generate over $700 million annually for the State's economy.

South Windsor community leaders are onboard and excited about the project as well. "One of our goals is to help our community industry and businesses to grow and become stronger," said Dr. Saud Anwar, Mayor of South Windsor. "As this project comes together, I am very happy that even the fuel cells will be made in South Windsor and will help create more jobs and growth opportunities right here in our community." South Windsor Town Manager, Matthew B. Galligan also weighed in, "This is a great day for South Windsor, as this will be the catalyst to move this project forward and at the same time provide much needed jobs to a local business."

By generating power on-site with fuel cells, CTS Energy will prevent the release of more than 1520 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually compared to conventional central utility generation – the equivalent of planting more than 351 acres of trees.  The reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions will be equal to the environmental benefit of removing more than 622 cars from the road.  In addition to the reduction in air emissions, once installed these PureCell systems will save over 17 million gallons of water annually.

"This is an exciting project for ClearEdge Power," said David B. Wright, Chief Executive Officer of ClearEdge Power.  "With the installation of 12 PureCell Model 400 fuel cells on-site a few miles from where they are manufactured in South Windsor, CTS Energy will positively contribute to the local economy, while helping to increase the efficiency and sustainability of power generation in our community. With large projects such as this on the horizon, we are excited to continue to build upon our successful manufacturing operations in Connecticut."
Generating electricity and heat, PureCell Model 400 systems are driving lower energy costs, increasing reliability and reducing emissions for customers around the globe.  PureCell systems have been proven in the field to be dependable and durable energy solutions, with total expected efficiencies more than double those of traditional power generation sources. With an ultra-clean design, optimized performance and streamlined installation, PureCell systems are the recommended choice for facilities with baseload heat and power requirements.
