Octopus Powers Up 2.3 Million Spanish Homes With Latest Renewable Solar And Battery Storage Investments
- Octopus boosts Spain’s energy transition with 600 MW of solar and battery storage capacity
- Comes as Octopus Energy becomes Spain’s fastest-growing independent energy supplier, supplying over 350,000 customers
- Deals to grow Octopus’s European renewables portfolio to close to 5GW of green projects
Octopus Energy is supercharging Spain’s energy transition by investing in three new projects that will deliver 600MW of clean energy – enough to power 2.3 million homes, or over 10% of Spanish homes.
Announced today at the Government’s UK-Spain Trade and Investment Roundtable, the investments made through Octopus Energy Generation’s £2bn ‘Sky’ fund (ORI SCSp) include newly acquired solar farms in Navarre and Albacete generating a combined 100 MW, plus a battery storage developer targeting 500 MW of capacity over the next five years.
Octopus has recently invested in OneSolar, a Barcelona-based energy advisory firm aiming to help businesses build and run solar and battery projects more efficiently.
Since entering Spain three years ago, Octopus has rapidly grown its retail business, becoming the country’s fastest-growing independent energy supplier* with over 350,000 customers.
The company is on track to reach one million customers by 2027, even outpacing its early growth in the UK while delivering smarter, cheaper, and greener energy solutions for households and businesses across the country.
Building on its huge success in the UK, Octopus is transforming homes across Spain with its smart EV charging tariff, Intelligent Octopus Go, and more than 7,000 solar panel and EV charger installations.
Zoisa North-Bond, CEO of Octopus Energy Generation, said: “Spain’s appetite for the energy transition is truly remarkable. Following closely in the footsteps of the market disruption we led in the UK, Octopus Spain is unlocking the full potential of the country’s abundant clean energy – from cutting-edge battery storage and solar farms to cheaper electricity for households and businesses.
“Every project we deliver adds more green power to the system and brings smarter, more sustainable energy solutions to communities across Spain. And it’s been incredible to see the progress we’ve already helped achieve.”
These investments are the latest additions to Octopus Energy Generation’s growing portfolio in Europe, already managing more than 4.9 GW of clean energy projects globally and comes as the business expands at record speed.
