Kuhlman Electric Partners With Transformer Protector

Explosion & Fire Protection for Large Power Transformers For New Transformers & Existing Retrofit Now Available to US Utility & Industrial Users

Versailles, KY and Houston, TX — Kuhlman Electric Corporation and Transformer Protector Corp (TPC) recently announced that they have established a joint marketing agreement, in which Kuhlman provides installation and services, new and retrofit, of the TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR in the United States. This agreement provides utility customers with application, design, hardware, and installation support for retrofit applications, all from a single source – Kuhlman Electric Field Engineering Services.

The TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR is a concept that can be applied to all transformers from 0.1MVA on up. It enables the user to:

  • Depressurize the tank within milliseconds;
  • Avoid contact between air (oxygen) and the evacuated explosive gases;
  • Separate gases from oil;
  • Channel the gases away from the transformer environment to a remote area;
  • Reduce explosive gases by making use of nitrogen injection;
  • Quickly secure the transformer for a safe intervention.
The TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR is a passive mechanical system, which can be activated only by the level of transformer tank internal pressure reached during a short-circuit event. The TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR has therefore a very high reliability and false activation is ruled out.

"As a leading North American provider of transformer products and related services, Kuhlman Electric Corp. sees this partnership as another enhancement of the value proposition it brings to its electric utility and industrial customers, and a great fit with its growing Field Engineering Services Division," commented Brian O'Leary, Kuhlman VP Sales & Marketing.

"Serving power transformer users in North America with their first ever tested and proven transformer explosion and fire prevention technology is for me the culmination of my years of study, test and worldwide installation experience," said Philippe Magnier, PhD, Chairman of SERGI, parent company of TPC.
