General and Precision Mounted Wheels

Mounted points are used extensively in toold & die, moldmaking, steel mills, foundries, aerospace, shipyard, welding and moany other metalworking industries. Global specializes in manufacturing general purpose and precision mounted wheels for a variety of applications based on specifications and standards of the Grinding Wheel Institute. (G.W.I.)

Global mounted wheels are produced with abrasive grain blended with proprietary bonding agents and molded to a particular shape. These molded shapes are fired and cured in custom designed kilns to achieve consistent surface finish. The molded shapes are then dressed to a final shape on specially designed tool grinders to achieve the desired shape.

The most commonly used G.W.I. shapes are Group A for off-hand grinding, Group B for light deburring and Group W for medium to heavy stock removal and precision grinding.

Abrasive Type:
Use regular & semi-friable aluminum oxide for rough grinding and severe applications.
Use Silicon Carbide (C) for grinding low tensile strength materials including cast-iron, brass, aluminum, magnesium and other non-ferrous metals.
Use sol-gel (SG) for deburring and finishing of hard, heat sensitive tool steels and other applications where long life and performance are critical.
Grits Sizes, Grades amd Colors: Global grit sizes range from 30 (coarse) to 400 (very fine) in grades of soft, medium and hard.

Global carries a large inventory of A, B and W shapes in white(soft), brown(medium), and blue(hard) abrasive formulas. We also utilize a variety of abrasive grains including pink, aluminum oxide, green silicon carbide, black silicon carbide and light blue sol-gel for specific applications.

Global mounted wheels are available in units of 25 per shape and also in convenient kit form. Each Global mounted wheel kit is a complete self-contained tool crib of the most commonly used, soft, medium, and hard shapes.
