GE Industrial Systems Secures Major Integrated Control System (ICS) Order For Dominion Energy
GE Industrial Systems provides turbine-generator control systems for GE Power Systems gas and steam turbines which are also being installed at Dominion Energy. Extending the Mark VI control platform from a turbine control to balance-of-plant equipment provides an integrated plant-level control system. Dominion Energy chose the Mark VI ICS over a traditional distributed control system (DCS) due to the uniformity of a common hardware and software platform and improved overall functionality.
The ICS includes Mark VI controls on the gas and steam turbines, the two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and the balance-of-plant (BOP) systems; three EX2100Ô Excitation Controls; the LCI Static Starter; and integration of the customer's GE Fanuc PLC sub-systems. The common hardware and software platform, combined with the GE Control System Toolbox and CIMPLICITYÒ HMI products, offers the customer an integrated plant control system with reduced operating and maintenance costs.
Jim Fisher, general manager of Turbine Control Systems for GE Industrial Systems, said, "The Mark VI ICS platform provides our customers with a common software and hardware platform for the entire plant. Up to this point, the various systems have been tied together through a series of software drivers. With our new approach, it will allow the customer more access to much-needed information to make faster decisions and increase reliability, reduce downtime, and increase productivity."
