Emerson Showcasing Grid Technologies At NEMA Smart Grid Event

As utilities and companies continue to explore and develop a broad range of technologies that promise to spur the nation's transition to a smarter, more efficient and reliable electric system, Emerson is once again in Washington D.C. to demonstrate its commitment to a Smart Grid.

Emerson is showcasing its innovative technologies today at the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as part of the NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) Smart Grid Expo, which is designed to spotlight the companies and technologies playing a vital role in the development of a Smart Grid. The Emerson businesses participating in this year's event – Emerson Network Power, Emerson Process Management and Emerson Climate Technologies – are showcasing distributed generation and efficient consumption technologies as they relate to the Smart Grid initiative.

Emerson Process Management control systems automate electric utility plants and optimize equipment performance, emissions compliance and overall unit efficiency, while ASCO inbound power switching and control equipment from Emerson Network Power help end users manage energy consumption more efficiently. From Emerson Climate Technologies, White-Rodgers thermostats help electric utilities manage peak demand and Retail Solutions' Energy Management Systems (EMS) enable customers to reduce energy consumption and participate in electric utility demand response programs.

"Managing and monitoring the power infrastructure from the point of generation to the point of consumption requires the development and implementation of a new generation of communications-enabled equipment and devices," said Pamela Jackson, vice president of technology, Emerson. "Emerson is leading the industry in the development of advanced monitoring, metering, control and communication technologies that facilitate the adoption of sustainable best practices, including Smart Grid integration."

NEMA, a trade association for the electrical manufacturing industry, has approximately 450 member companies, which manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and end-use of electricity. NEMA members are leading the way in Smart Grid technologies by encouraging investment in the national electricity grid and developing new product standards.
