Caterpillar Announces Mid-Range Tier 4 Interim Certified Diesel Generator Set - 800 ekW Package Powered By The C27 Engine

Caterpillar Inc. announced recently the introduction of the C27 diesel generator set – which meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Interim emissions standards. The package offers the latest in engine design technology for standby, prime and load management applications. The ratings for this 60 Hz package are 800 ekW (Standby) and 725 ekW (Prime), offering highly competitive service intervals, fuel consumption rates and power density.

Evolving on the attributes of the C27 diesel generator set with ACERT™ Technology and applying an electronically controlled air management system to lower the combustion temperature on the engine, the NOx output from the generator set is decreased. Thus the Tier 4 Interim emission standards are met without the need for aftertreatment. By relying on engine technology alone, customers will benefit from the most cost-effective solution, such as minimized package changes and size impact, operating practices and maintenance complexity.

Additional engine features include an ADEM™ A4 controller, Air-To-Air After Cooler (ATAAC) cooling system and MEUI fuel system. The C27's durable design provides added reliability, consistent performance and excellent fuel economy. The permanent magnet, random-wound generator provides a UL 1446 recognized Class H insulation system. It features IP23 protection rating, Cat® Digital Voltage Regulator (CDVR) with VAR/PF control, winding temperature detectors and 2/3 pitch stator winding.

The C27 Tier 4 Interim certified generator set package offers improvements in power cabling, resulting in increased flexibility and decreased installation time. It will also include Caterpillar's latest generator set controller – the EMCP 4. The state-of-the-art EMCP 4 delivers a more intuitive, user-friendly, interface/navigation than previous EMCP 3 models. Along with its scalable platform adding flexibility to precisely match customer power requirements, it also allows greater configuration options to meet unique installation needs (i.e., improved communication with SCADA systems – Modbus, RS-485 and Ethernet). Optional on the C27 generator set is an improved enclosure, with increased weather protection, easier accessibility for inspections and enhanced package-mounted circuit breaker options.

To support the C27 generator set, Cat dealers and technicians will be factory trained in emissions technology, from configuration and installation to maintenance and service.
