Caterpillar Inc. recently announces the introduction of its 725 ekW mobile diesel generator set meeting Tier 4 Interim emission standards. This power module is rated for prime operation at 725 ekW (480/277 V and 240/139 V) and 672 ekW (208/120 V) and can easily be configured for 50 Hz operation, rated at 750 kVA (400 V). Powered by the fuel-efficient Cat® C27 ACERT® engine, the XQ800 is sold and rented exclusively through Cat dealers.
Equipped with the new EMCP 4.4 control panel, the XQ800 features a user-friendly interface and automatic generator set paralleling. A principle advantage of the control system is the auto- configuration of key performance parameters when frequency and/or voltage changes are required. The EMCP 4.4, ADEM™ A4 and Cat Digital Voltage Regulator (CDVR) sense changes and adjust the parameters for optimum performance. Providing greater flexibility when moving between multiple job sites with differing frequency and voltage needs, the auto-configuration capability eliminates the time required when reprogramming units and potential errors.
The XQ800 power module is ideal for utility paralleling applications as it offers power metering, protective relaying, and engine and generator control monitoring. The optional Utility Multifunction Relay (UMR) provides the protection often required by utilities when paralleling with a utility source.
To expedite installation after delivery, redesigned connection points provide better access and cable spacing between the main load bus terminals. Automatic changeover between shore power and generator set power for all on-board systems additionally speeds set-up. The ladder and rail storage is integrated into the chassis on this rental unit – a design improvement affecting access and handling.
From the operation perspective, the XQ800 mobile generator set accepts 100 percent rated load in one step per NFPA 110 and meets ISO 8528-5 transient response. The power module meets 76 dBA at seven meters at 110 percent of the prime rating per SAE J1074 measurement procedure, while maintaining the ambient and altitude performance for all voltages.
Environmental considerations have also been incorporated into the design of the XQ800. New on the package is a solar powered battery maintainer – keeping batteries fully charged when not in use. The open crankcase ventilation system (with filter) mitigates environmental impact by reducing the oil contained in engine ventilation by 75 percent. This unit provides 110 percent spill containment of onboard engine fluids.
They XQ800 mobile diesel generator set is backed 100 percent by service provided through Caterpillar's authorized dealer network and technicians – trained to service every aspect of Cat equipment.
