ATC Project Will Strengthen Electric Reliability For Dane, Prairie Du Sac Areas

Rebuilding of transmission line began in September

Madison, WI - American Transmission Co. in September began construction activities to rebuild portions of the approximately 14-mile, 69-kilovolt Dam Heights-Dane electric transmission line that connects the Dam Heights Substation in Prairie du Sac and the Dane Substation in the Village of Dane.

Construction activities for the approximately $6.6M project began in September 2011, and are scheduled to be completed in fall 2012. The age and condition of lattice transmission towers, which were built in 1919, necessitated the rebuild. Work will also include restringing wire on portions of the line.

"We will be replacing lattice towers with new single poles and wires between the Dane and Dam Heights substations," said Doug Berton, ATC project manager. Henkels & McCoy is ATC's construction contractor for this project. The Dam Heights-Dane Rebuild Project is completely independent from the Badger Coulee project currently being studied by ATC.

"The rebuilt line will make a vital improvement to electric system reliability in the area," said Jon Callaway, ATC local relations representative. "We will continue to communicate with affected landowners throughout the construction process."
