ANSI Reaccredits NERC's Reliability Standards Development Process
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in December reaccredited the NERC standards development process, effective immediately.
In August, the NERC Board of Trustees approved the current version — Version 4 — of the Reliability Standards Process Manual, which describes the NERC process for developing reliability standards. The revision addressed a recommendation stemming from the 2003 blackout investigation to streamline the development of reliability standards for the North American bulk power system.
NERC intends to file the process manual with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Canadian provincial regulators as part of its application to become the electric reliability organization for North America.
The manual is available at http://www.nerc.com/standards/newstandardsprocess.html. Information about the standards is available at https://standards.nerc.net/
