ABB Wins Major Greenfield Hydro Project In Peru

Orlando, FL - ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, recently announced it has won a power generation order to provide power equipment and engineering for the Cheves greenfield hydropower plant in Peru.

Once commissioned, electricity consumers in the region will benefit from significant improvements in reliability and relief from voltage fluctuations and power cuts common to the area.

ABB will provide engineering and power equipment to Empresa de Generacion Electrica Cheves S.A., a hydropower generation company in Peru, which is 100 percent owned by SN Power of Norway. Cheves is a 2 x 84 megawatt hydropower project located in the provinces of Oyon and Huaura in Peru.

The project will be executed in Consortium and led by ABB Canada with Rainpower from Norway and Jeumont from France. The consortium will provide a complete “Water to Wire” solution for the hydro power plant. ABB is providing the complete electrical balance of plant (eBoP) systems including GIS substation, generator breakers, medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgear, step-up transformers, plant controls, protection system and other electrical auxiliaries. Rain Power will supply the Turbine and Juemont, the Generator. The consortium’s scope includes the installation and commissioning of equipment.

"The award of this project reflects the trust our customers have in the strong Project Management and Engineering capabilities of our team in leading full scope Water to Wire projects, and continues our success in the region," said Gary Shaw, vice president and general manager, Power Generation, ABB Canada Inc.

This project is scheduled for completion by November, 2013.

This announcement was made at the ABB Automation & Power World 2011 conference, ABB’s annual premier customer event held this year in Orlando.
