ABB To Supply Control Equipment For New CH2M Hill Power Station In New York
ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, has been entrusted with the responsibility to supply the electrical control equipment for a new power plant being constructed in New York.
The new combined cycle power plant – the first combined cycle plant in the United States with 800xA controls – will be located in Rensselaer, New York, and will have an output of 635 MW. The power station, which will be fueled by a 2x2x1 combined cycle, is scheduled to begin operations in mid-2010.
CH2M Hill, a global full-service engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and operations firm, will serve as the EPC Contractor for the project out of its Atlanta office. ABB's 800xA control system will help control the Electrical Balance of Plant, Heat Recovery Steam Generators and the Cooling Towers. Other equipment that will be supplied as part of the order includes PPA Consoles, AC800M Controllers, S800 I/O (Input/Output), and S800 I/O with HART, as well as several step-up transformers. ABB will also provide the start-up and commissioning support.
"The state-of-the-art 800xA control system is an ideal choice for such an application with a proven track record all over the world. It will help enhance energy efficiency and optimize plant operations," said Martin Gross, Head of ABB Power Systems North America division.
"We chose ABB based on our previous experience in executing similar large projects in partnership. ABB's global experience and technology leadership in providing power and automation product expertise and services will help us meet our customers' needs for highly reliable, efficient electric power," said Ken Ditto, project engineer, CH2M Hill.
"These ABB products are available to meet a variety of demanding technical and environmental requirements," continued Ditto. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with ABB."
