Symphony Plus upgrade significantly reduces life cycle cost and project risk through “plug and play” upgrade of 20-year-old operator console Raleigh, NC, August 21, 2013 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, recently announced that it has successfully commissioned a Symphony Plus upgrade at Camden County Energy Recovery Corporation. This facility is located in New Jersey.
This was the first time an aging Management Command Station (MCS) console was converted to S+ Operations, and this transition was a “plug and play” upgrade of a 20-year-old MCS console.
The Camden Resource Recovery facility uses mass burn technology to convert over 300,000 tons per year of solid waste into enough electricity to meet the needs of approximately 25,000 homes. This facility is owned by the Pollution Control Financing Authority of Camden County (PCFACC) and is leased to the facility operator. The PCFACC seeks to provide environmentally responsible, economical, long-term solid waste disposal services to the County of Camden.
DCS lifecycle maximization, cost savings and operator effectiveness are fundamental to this plant’s performance. The project replaced an existing MCS console with S+ Operations, ABB’s most modern HMI, designed specifically for power and water plants. ABB was selected for this project due to its low-risk solution that brought the plant into a modern operating environment in the most cost-effective manner, and for the inherent advantages of its simple, scalable, seamless and secure Symphony Plus control system.
The total scope of the project included S+ Operations, S+ Engineering, communication modules, processors, power system and cabinet installation.
The ABB team provided a carefully designed schedule for the five-day planned outage to evolve the new console, giving the operators the desired performance and reliability they needed.
