LE 8940 MONOLEC Natural Gas Engine Oil Saves City Of Palm Springs $906,000 Over 20 Years

Fort Worth, TX - Lubrication Engineers helped one of their customers – City of Palm Springs, California Cogeneration Facility, by saving them nearly $ 1 million over a 20 year period by using LE 8940 MONOLEC Natural Gas Engine Oil in their three Caterpillar G399 930 HP natural gas fired engines. These engines are linked to 650 KW generators and run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Downtime, high oil consumption & the emissions of these Caterpillar engines were all of great concern to the City and therefore 20 years ago they converted them to Lubrication Engineers engine oil. The results were incredible – oil consumption was reduced by 50%, head life was doubled and main bearings currently have over 50,000 hours or 8 years of service on them. When the customer previously used a major commercial brand lubricant in the Caterpillar engines, oil consumption averaged 3 gallons per engine per day. All eight heads per engine were being replaced every year at a cost of $835 per head as well as nine bearings per engine at a cost of $145 per bearing that were being replaced every four years or 25,000 hours.

Since changing to LE's 8940 MONOLEC 20 years ago, oil consumption at the cogeneration facility only averages 1½ gallons per day per engine – a 50% reduction in consumption. Head life has been extended to two years instead of the original year. Main bearings currently have over 50,000 hours or 8 years of service life on them and are spotless and still in operation. 50,000 hours would be equivalent to over 2 million miles in an over-the-road engine. Piston packs and connecting rods that were replaced every four years now have over eight years or 50,000 hours on them with no signs of wear.
