Voice of the Denver Nuggets joins leaders in electrical reconditioning, sustainability, and safety at PEARL's Electrical Safety and Reliability Conference & Exhibition to be held April 24-26 in Denver.

Aurora, CO - The testing and maintenance of power transformers rated at 500 V or less will be the focus of two days of training at the upcoming Professional Electrical Apparatus Recyclers League (PEARL) 2010 Electrical Safety and Reliability Conference & Exhibition at the Westin Tabor Center in Denver, CO, April 24-26.

AVO Training Institute's Senior Training Specialist, James Smith, will instruct attendees on the proper DC and AC testing of power transformers, as well as oil testing, gas testing, and final assembly electrical tests. Hands on tests include but are not limited to Power Factor, insulation, and winding tests during the DC/AC testing segment; liquid sampling, dielectric and interfacial tension tests during the transformer oil testing segment; and gas detection, oxygen testing, and gas analysis during the Gas Testing segment of the two-day seminar. Maintenance and testing are emphasized although transformer types and nameplate data are also covered.

"This course will benefit all personnel involved with the testing and maintenance of power transformers," explains Malcom Frederick, President of Coastal Switchgear ( Angleton, TX) and PEARL Technical Committee chairman in charge of the two-day seminar. "Mr. Smith will discuss the various tests and then allow participants to practice the tests in a lab environment under careful supervision. This course is best suited for people working with transformers rated 500 kV or less."

The 2010 Electrical Safety and Reliability Conference & Exhibition offers a two-track program with the transformer training running opposite two days of business and electrical presentations from electrical industry leaders. The presentations start on Sunday with keynote speaker, Jerry Schemmel – survivor of United Flight 232 plane crash, author, and voice of Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies (recently of the NBA's Denver Nuggets). Schemmel will talk about his unique perspective on surviving difficult times and the meaning of personal and business success. Other highlights include Nabil Nasr, Director of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), who will look at sustainability and reuse in the electrical industry; and Eaton Corporations Anti-Counterfeit Manager, Tom Grace. Representatives of Boltswitch Inc., Jim Erickson and Eric Maier will discuss the care and maintenance of bolted pressure switches, while PEARL members Byerley Metals Inc, Satin America Corp., CBS Nuclear Services and ROMAC will discuss plating, arc flash, and PEARL's new transformer standards. Finally, forensic engineer Helmut Grosz will discuss bus duct failures and issues.
