Black & Veatch Consortium Selected For New Cogeneration Plant Project In Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand — Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, and consortium partner Marubeni have been selected by Glow Energy Public Company, Ltd. for a 382-megawatt equivalent (MWe) combined-cycle, cogeneration plant project in Rayong, Thailand.

"When completed in 2011, the plant will provide Glow's customers with a clean, reliable source of steam and electricity, supporting the sustainable growth of Thailand's economy," said Dean Oskvig, President and CEO of Black & Veatch's global energy business.

The Black & Veatch consortium is providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the new plant and was selected because of its in-depth technical and project execution expertise. Black & Veatch is the technical manager for the project responsible for engineering, plant equipment procurement, construction management, startup and commissioning. Marubeni is commercial manager, responsible for procurement of the power train and the construction subcontract.

The combined-cycle, cogeneration plant will provide Glow with operational flexibility in providing electricity and steam to its petrochemical customers. When operating in full condensing mode, the plant will produce approximately 382 MWe of electricity. The plant can also produce 120 tons per hour of steam in cogeneration mode with electricity output of 342 MW.

"Black & Veatch is an industry leader in developing cogeneration power solutions," said Oskvig. "The project team within our Bangkok office will lead the execution of this assignment with procurement and specialized engineering support from our integrated global workforce."
