Discharge Detector and Cable PD Locator

The ICMcompact is a compact instrument for quality assurance and quality control tests of medium and high voltage insulation. It is also suitable for field use in certain applications, including location of partial discharge in medium-voltage shielded power cables.

This product is a stand-alone instrument, configured and operated through on-screen menus and corresponding push buttons. Although it does not need to be connected to a PC to operate, it can be connected to a PC to download data and capture screenshots. It has several display modes, including a simple charge meter, a monochrome phase-resolved PD pattern display, and a DSO display. With the DSO option, it can be used to perform location of PD sites in shielded power cable using time domain reflectometry (TDR) methods.

The instrument provides effective noise gating that blocks phase-stable noise as well as noise independent of the applied voltage cycle, allowing it to be used in noisy environments without losing significant PD data. It is also available in a fully portable battery-powered version that is synchronized to the grid through a radio transmitter. The battery powered version permits 3-4 hours of independent operation. The removable NiMH battery is charged automatically when the instrument is connected to mains supply.
