Advanced Energy — your partner for successful change.
Located in Raleigh, North Carolina, Advanced Energy is the national resource that focuses on industrial process technologies, motors and drives testing, and applied building science, with state-of-the-art laboratories in which to do testing and applied research.
We are a non-profit corporation that helps utility, industrial and residential customers improve the return on their energy investment. Offering consulting, testing, and training, we develop innovative solutions to unique problems.
The primary mission of Advanced Energy is to increase efficiency and productivity in industries, businesses, and homes as they transform energy into goods, services, and environmental conditioning.
For utilities, that means developing programs and services to benefit their customers.
For industries, it means testing new equipment, helping develop new products, and improving manufacturing processes.
For the building industry, we help builders, developers, and mechanical contractors improve homes and small commercial buildings.
Advanced Energy was originally known as Alternative Energy Corporation, or AEC. We were founded by the North Carolina Utilities Commission in 1980 to explore alternative ways of producing electricity and get more work out of the electricity already available.
Our North Carolina member utilities are Carolina Power & Light, Duke Power Company, Nantahala Power & Light Company, North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation, and North Carolina Power. Advanced Energy is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the governor of North Carolina the member utilities.
In addition to creating means for sustainable energy-efficient economic development for the ratepayers of North Carolina, AE operates as a fee-for-service consultant to clients across the nation and the globe. Our client list is impressive and ranges from small companies to some of the largest industries in the world.
On June 1, 1997, the North Carolina Alternative Energy Corporation, or AEC, became Advanced Energy. "With changes in the utility industry and increasing competition in the marketplace," said Robert K Koger, president and executive director, "we need a name that shows we are ready for today's challenges — and tomorrow's. Our new name, Advanced Energy, demonstrates that capability."
The emphasis on innovation and efficiency has not changed as Advanced Energy continues to build on a foundation of expertise and achievement in applied building science, motors and drives testing, and industrial process technologies.
