Extended Capabilities Enhance Responsiveness

CenterPoint Energy sells more than 120 billion cubic feet of natural gas each year and has over 19,000 miles of main lines. The utility spans a challenging geographic area with diverse terrain that is frequented by tornados, hurricanes and ice storms.

CenterPoint needed to upgrade its communications "pipeline" to stay up and running as it expanded service to customers. Given its growth and geography, the utility company was keenly aware of the importance of rapid response. Yet, concerns were mounting that a breakdown in its communications system would occur due to equipment obsolescence or failure and compromise response.
