Voltage Sag Technology

Source: American Superconductor
Momentary power sags can cause production losses, scrap product, missed schedules, overtime and added maintenance.
Momentary power sags can cause production losses, scrap product, missed schedules, overtime and added maintenance. PQ IVR is designed to integrate energy storage and power electronics to boost utility sag events by 10-30%, at any level, and keep plants running. A superconducting magnet stores the energy to bridge voltage sags. When a sag is detected, the system immediately rebuilds the voltage. Plants see smooth, uninterrupted power.

System performance is independent of load size, and is limited only by source and load characteristics. Ride-through times far longer than typical utility events allow the technology to bridge multiple, rapid-fire events. A monitoring and alarm system reports status to the user and to ASC field service offices.
