Utilities Complete Greater Springfield Reliability Transmission Project
Connecticut Light & Power and Western Massachusetts Electric Co., both subsidiaries of Northeast Utilities, have completed the Greater Springfield Reliability Project, a transmission upgrade to help improve electric reliability in southern New England.
According to Northeast Utilities, the project finished on time and more than $40M under the estimated cost of $718M. The company says the transmission upgrade improves the flow of power in and around the greater Springfield, Mass., north-central Connecticut area while connecting customers to more efficient generation.
Northeast Utilities notes that the project upgraded 39 miles of transmission lines on an existing right-of-way between Ludlow, Mass., and Bloomfield, Conn., with more than 600 new structures and 13 new or rebuilt substations and switching stations.
