NGCP Installs New Transformer At Binan Substation

In order to increase the operational capabilities of its Binan substation in Laguna, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) recently installed a new 300-megavolt ampere (MVA), 230/115-kiloVolt (kV) transformer onsite. Installation of equipment has ensured efficient, stable and reliable delivery of electrical power to its load center. Likewise, additional installation of capacity in substation is expected to help to avert overloading of the existing transformers.

The seventy-five million peso (P75M) project is included in NGCP’s Luzon Substation Expansion I Project, which aims to upgrade Binan Substation and 6 other substations in North Luzon. The project involves the installation of additional transformers to accommodate load growth and N-1 contingency at various substations.

Installation of the new 300MVA transformer in Binan was contracted out on September 23, 2010 and energized on December 19, 2011.
