NGCP And DOE Interact With Northern Samar Communicators

Power grid operator and transmission service provider NGCP partners with the Department of Energy (DOE) to widen public understanding of the process behind the delivery of good-quality electricity to homes and industries.

In an activity facilitated by NGCP, the group, composed of Northern Samar municipal information officers, media representatives and Philippine Information Agency officials, visited NGCP’s Visayas System Operations (VSO) office where they witnessed grid shift dispatchers monitoring the real-time status of the entire Visayas power grid shown from giant screens, and ensuring that the supply and demand for electricity remains balanced in accordance with the Philippine Grid Code. NGCP reiterated its strict adherence to the standards set by existing rules and regulations, emphasizing that while it is a privately-owned corporation, it is highly regulated and its operations must stand the scrutiny of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

In a separate discussion with the group, Engr. Jorey Maleza, Supervisor of the Electric Power Industry Management Division of the Department of Energy - Visayas Field Office, together with representatives from NGCP, addressed questions on the energy industry. Engr. Maleza presented the salient provisions of Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) and the prospective power plants for Visayas. Maleza also clarified issues like increase in power bills and underscored the importance of LGU’s support in efforts to attract power plants in Northern Samar.
