The MEGGER KF2000 Karl Fischer test set utilizes industry standard techniques to analyze materials for moisture content
The MEGGER KF2000 Karl Fischer test set utilizes industry standard techniques to analyze materials for moisture content. Karl Fischer coulometric titrimetry is used to calibrate other types of moisture in oil meters as well.

Traditionally, Karl Fischer test sets have been designed for use in laboratories, where mains supplies have been available and chemical storage is not a problem. However, field testing has rarely been a viable option. Now, the KF2000 brings true portability to the testing technique.

The KF2000 test set is ruggedised to protect the titration cell during transit and is fitted with a strong removable metal cover. Additionally, the KF2000 is fitted with rechargeable NiCd batteries which power the instrument for up to 8 hours. The batteries are automatically recharged when the unit is connected to a mains supply between 85 V and 264 V 50/60Hz.

Unlike some instruments which require a fresh charge of chemicals for each test, the KF2000 titration chemicals will complete many tests before replacement is needed thus reducing costs.

Although the KF2000 is intended mainly for determining moisture content of insulating oils, Karl Fischer coulometric titrimetry is able to detect moisture in a variety of materials in liquid or powder form. However, if the materials contain aldehydes, ketones or amines, a different titration reagent will be required.

The increasing use of predictive maintenance techniques has raised the importance of faster testing. The portability of the Megger KF2000 is ideally suited to testing samples on site, quickly and easily.

A test may be completed in less than 2 minutes and involves the use of a small sample of the material to be tested. Decisions may be made instantly instead of waiting for the results from central laboratory testing.
