Heartland Transmission Project Electrified In Alberta

The Heartland Transmission Project team, AltaLink and EPCOR, announced that construction on the transmission line is complete and it is in operation.

Initially, residents and businesses near the line may hear a buzzing or crackling noise, which will dissipate to normal levels as operations settle in, according to project leaders.

The 41-mile line from south Edmonton to the Heartland industrial area north of Edmonton provides a substantial upgrade to transmission infrastructure in Alberta. The project was identified in provincial legislation as critical transmission infrastructure to Alberta's electrical system.

AltaLink, Canada's only fully independent transmission provider, is responsible for the maintenance and operation of more than 7,332 miles of transmission lines and about 270 substations in Alberta.
