Fiber Optic Transmission

The FOsystem is a complete set of instruments for convenient fiber optic transmission of different types of analog signals from a variety of sensors, including temperature, pressure, partial discharge, etc. It allows easy implementation of fiber optic transmission to solve noise, safety, and signal quality issues in high-voltage measuring environments and other demanding conditions.

The set is available in three versions, for three options of transmission method comprised of analog transmission, digital transmission, or pulsed digital transmission. Each set includes transmission (FOT) modules, receiver (FOR) modules (multiple receiver modules are mounted together in a compact rack), and sturdy fiber optic cable. The transmission modules are equipped with batteries for a lifetime of up to 2 years.

The output signal of the signal source or sensor is fed to the input of the FOT. The transmitter then either modulates the infrared light emitted by the transmitter diode according to the value of the input signal, or digitizes the signal and transmits a digital telegram. This optical signal is transmitted via optical fiber to the receiver, which converts it back to voltages for further processing.

Automatic adjustment of transmission links, even when transmitters and optical fibers are interchanged or replaced, make it easy to use and to interface with existing measuring and processing equipment. With its robust, compact design, easy interface, and a variety of available sensor types, it is an ideal solution to signal transmission problems in harsh environments.
