PTI-Plus is a synchronous and asynchronous communication dual channel, serial adapter interface for protocol emulation that utilizes a PCMCIA Type II communication controller. It to supports the installation, test and maintenance of SCADA products. The product uses Windows-based as the Graphic User Interface (GUI) standard, which provides the user with the flexibility to navigate various screens and functions of the test instrument, and the implementation supports all three layers of the DNP 3.0 protocol.

The product meets all recommended attributes specified for the physical layer, including asynchronous data communications, synchronous data communications, DCE data communication equipment, and FSK communications. Basic services such as send, receive, connect, disconnect, and status are also performed. It also meets all recommended attributes specified for data link layer interconnections to ensure the accuracy of data transfer between the physical layer and the application layer of the DNP 3.0 protocol, including frame synchronization, link control, and CRC error check. The set meets the requirements for the recommended levels of implementation at this layer, including subset implementation between the master station and IEDs, subset implementation between the master station and RTUs, and subset implementation between the master and data concentrator.

The set can operate in three main modes: scanner mode emulates the master station by allowing the user to define messages and display remote messages from RTUs and IEDs. It also provides a user-defined function to tailor specific messages and scenarios typical to that user's operations. RTU mode emulates a remote station by allowing users to enter reply messages that are automatically transmitted to the master station in response to a command from the master station. Monitor mode allows users to view communication lines between the master station, RTU, or IED. All commands and replies are displayed immediately.
