Increasing Utility Design Efficiency with an Integrated Autodesk and SAP Solution

With the housing boom showing no signs of abating, and commercial and industrial development resuming growth after a recent slowdown, gas and electric utilities are under increasing pressure to complete construction work orders on budget and on time. Utilities must improve the bottom line by not devoting additional resources to the process while at the same time making customer satisfaction a priority.

By automating and integrating key functions and systems in the work order process, utilities can improve process efficiency, reduce redundant data entry and costly errors, and enhance customer satisfaction with more timely delivery of work order packages. Click here to learn more.

IEEE Releases Updated Green Book™ Standard for Grounding of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems

The IEEE Green Book addresses the problems of system grounding-that is-connection to ground of neutral, of the corner of the delta, or of the midtap of one phase. Also discussed are the advantages and disadvantages of grounded vs. ungrounded systems. The book offers information on how to ground the system, where the system should be grounded, and how to select equipment for the ground of the neutral circuits. Connecting the frames and enclosures of electric apparatus, such as motors, switchgear, transformers, buses, cables, conduits, building frames, and portable equipment, to a ground system is shared.

The IEEE Green Book outlines the fundamentals of making the interconnection of a ground conductor system between electric equipment and the ground rods, water pipes, etc. It deals with the problems of static electricity — how it is generated, what processes may produce it, how it is measured, and what should be done to prevent its generation or to drain the static charges to earth to prevent sparking. Presented are methods for protecting structures against the effects of lightning. Obtaining a low-resistance connection to earth, use of ground rods, connections to water pipes, etc is conveyed. Included is a separate chapter on electronic equipment.
