Article: Just Add IT: How One Water Utility Made AMR's Value Rise

"In AMR, the data is king," says Charles Kiely, assistant general manager of consumer services for the District of Columbia's Water and Sewer Authority (WASA). WASA has less than 4,000 meters left to install in a 124,000-meter deployment of fixed network, radio frequency AMR units from Hexagram.
The system has been in operation for three years, and WASA has been putting the meter reading to good use. According to Kiely, "The daily interval data enables a host of applications that you can develop to provide value-added service to your consumers." But, metering people can't develop those applications alone, he adds. "If you have a good relationship with your information technology staff, you can go way beyond simple meter reading."
