Electrical Safety Foundation International Announces WESCO International As 2008 Electrical Safety Award For Excellence Recipient

Arlington, VA - The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) announced WESCO International, Inc. (WESCO) as the inaugural recipient of the foundation's Electrical Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE). WESCO International was honored for its significant contributions to the creation and promotion of the "Never Assume" Safety Series, a new line of workplace safety videos and support materials produced in partnership with ESFI during this past year.
Electrical Safety Foundation International president Brett Brenner stated, "Since its inception, ESFI has received widespread support from the electrical industry. Industry members have consistently served as invaluable partners in furthering the foundation's mission of reducing electrically-related deaths and injuries."
ESFI's SAFE program recognizes utilities, manufacturers, distributors, associations, agencies, nonprofits, and other industry-related organizations for their outstanding achievements in promoting electrical safety issues through active and sustained efforts. It also emphasizes to the public that these companies and organizations can play a vital role in improving safety for their employees both on the job and at home. The award was formally presented to WESCO at the National Electrical Manufacturers Association's (NEMA) Illuminations Dinner held on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
"The 'Never Assume' Safety Series is a collection of comprehensive safety video modules and other training materials which represents a significant step forward for ESFI in addressing electrical safety in commercial and industrial settings," acknowledged John Engel, WESCO's Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. "We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to raising awareness and promoting electrical safety in the workplace and in the home."
In developing the materials for the "Never Assume" Safety Series, WESCO International, Inc. brought together a panel of safety experts from across the electrical industry to ensure that the materials created for this series addressed the industry's most critical safety issues and accurately aligned with the recently released 2009 edition of NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace and other workplace safety standards.
