Chromalox introduces Chromasoft SpecView software
June 13, 2001
Chromalox Precision Heat and Control, a division of Emerson, announces availability of its Chromasoft SpecView software. SpecView is a flexible, Windows-based software package that enables data logging of Chromalox controllers with digital communications. Setup is quick and easy, typically within 30 minutes, and long-term technical support is standard. SpecView allows an operator to view and change any controller parameter directly from the computer. An operator can also monitor and record any controller parameter, logging data for future evaluation. Pricing starts as low as $895.
A full-function demonstration of SpecView is available online at www.chromalox.com/chromasoft or in our Download Library. This free run-time program allows set-up and control operation of control parameters for two events. Communication and control functions can be programmed and saved in a temporary file.
SpecView communicates with multiple Chromalox 2104, 1604, 3101 and 2030 series of controllers from a single computer. Each controller includes an "instrument view", automatically created for use with a Graphical Display Screen (GDS). The instrument view displays the process variable, set point and has functional pushbuttons. A GDS can display several instruments on one screen, or multiple screens can separate different functions.
SpecView has extensive trend chart capabilities. There is no limit to the number of traces or "pens" that can be created on a chart. A trend chart can be built with multiple variables and scales on a single chart. Multiple charts can also be built on a single screen. Other highlights of the trend chart feature include automatic printing, individual scaling for each pen, individual display of pen scaling, time spans from one to 30 days, numeric display of each value, round number time intervals, variable font and color selection, optional display of two cursors showing time interval and value change, and, optional horizontal grid.
The trend chart can be saved and later reviewed using the "Historical Replay" option or the data can be exported to a third-party database program. Data can be quickly reviewed to identify excursions or problems.
SpecView saves the values of selected variables so they can be reloaded at a later time. This "recipe" system helps eliminate operator error in setting machine parameters. Additional features of SpecView include bar charting, data logging, and event and alarm logging.
ChromaSoft SpecView is available with optional features. Historical Replay allows the users to quickly replay or fast forward through past trend charts. The Strategy Control option lets the operator set conditions for applications, such as time stamping. A Multiport option increases the speed of data logging. It can support up to 8 communication ports. With the DDEE option, Dynamic Data Exchange can take place. Real time data can be read from, and written back into SpecView.
