ABB To Present Technology Solutions To Meet Energy Challenges At World Energy Congress 2010
Focus on energy efficiency, energy management and evolving power networks
Zurich, Switzerland - ABB, the global power and automation technology group, will present its latest smart and sustainable energy solutions at the World Energy Congress in Montreal next month, with a strong focus on technology that strengthens the reliability of power supplies while minimizing environmental impact. ABB's CEO Joe Hogan is one of the keynote speakers at the event.
ABB is a platinum sponsor of this leading energy industry event, which is held every three years. The 2010 event runs from Sept. 12-16.
The ABB solutions presented at the 2010 World Energy Congress support the congress theme of "Acting now on global challenges – energy in transition for a living planet," and reflect the company's contribution to tackling the environmental, economic and technology challenges arising from the rapid growth in global energy demand.
On Sept. 14, ABB's CEO Joe Hogan will give a keynote speech to the general assembly on the global energy mix in 2030 and address members of WEC's Future Energy Leaders group. Peter Leupp, head of ABB's Power Systems division, will participate in a discussion on "Scenarios and New Technologies" in the future energy leaders session.
The ABB exhibit (at stand #1315) will include the latest smart grid, energy efficiency and energy management technologies, including systems that connect grids to each other and to intermittent renewable energy sources. Delegates will be able to visit the exhibit before it opens to the public for five days on Sunday, Sept. 12.
ABB experts will also present technical papers at the event, on topics which include:
- Powering oil and gas offshore operations from the mainland electrical grid
- HVDC: a key solution in future transmission systems
- Use of FACTS for enhanced flexibility and efficiency in power transmission and distribution
- Shore-to-ship power installations
- Challenges in wind power development in China
- Improving energy efficiencies in today's manufacturing environment
- The "energy efficiency enterprise"
- Power quality results in energy-efficient aluminum smelter operation
